We advise brands to use keyword blockers carefully. They are blunt tools — they simply search for words, without understanding meaning or context. That’s why BrandBastion created AI models: keyword blockers alone cannot comprehend language the way people do on social media. To get the best results, we recommend using keyword blockers in combination with our AI-powered models.
How to Hide Keywords
Hide all keywords that include a certain word
If you want to hide any word that includes a specific term, type the word without quotation marks.
The query is not case-sensitive — it will catch all case variations.
It also hides any word containing the term.
Example:
Typing scam
will hide comments with scamming
, scammer
, and even comments containing scam
.
Typing war
will also hide words like forward
.
Important: If you add a keyword with the translation on, it will be hidden across all languages.
Hide only exact matches of a word
If you want to hide only the exact word, type it inside "quotation marks".
We'll match the word in lowercase, uppercase, and capitalized case.
We won't match words that contain the keyword inside a larger word.
Example:
Typing "war"
will hide war
, WAR
, and War
, but it will not hide forward
.
Hide specific expressions or phrases
If you want to block an exact phrase (two or more words together), type the full phrase inside quotation marks.
Example:
Typing "this is no good"
will hide that full phrase exactly.
Add a long list of comma-separated keywords
If you have a long list of keywords you want to block:
Separate them with commas without spaces.
Expressions (phrases) should be inside quotation marks.
Example to paste:
keyword,keyword2,"example of an expression","exact"
Tip: To manage a large list, you can first curate it in a tool like Google Sheets (one keyword per line), and then use an online tool to replace line breaks with commas.
Keyword Blocking Cautions and Limitations
Keyword blockers are blunt tools:
They cannot interpret context. For example, shot
could mean firing a gun, taking a drink, or trying something new. Without context, it's impossible to block the right comments every time.Keyword blockers are not foolproof:
They may miss comments with misspelled or deviated versions of the blocked keywords.Regular updates are necessary:
Your list of blocked keywords should be reviewed and updated frequently to stay effective and relevant.
Using BrandBastion’s AI-powered models together with keyword blocking ensures much better results than relying on keywords alone. Our models are trained to understand meaning, not just words.
