App Review Ingestion, Update Frequency, and Moderation

This guide explains how and when app reviews are ingested, updated, and displayed in the platform after onboarding, including key limitations from Apple and Google that affect visibility and timing.

Updated over a week ago

This guide explains how and when reviews appear in the platform after onboarding, how often they’re updated, and what delays to expect based on App Store and Google Play policies.

Review Ingestion After Onboarding

  • Ingestion begins within 1 to 2 minutes after onboarding

  • We pull all currently published reviews using the App Store Connect API

  • Reviews are loaded into the platform immediately

Google Play Store gets new logo on Android [Updated] - 9to5Google Google Play

  • Ingestion begins within 1 to 2 minutes after onboarding

  • Due to Google Play API limitations, we can only fetch reviews that were created or updated in the last 7 days

  • Older reviews are not available through the API

Review Update Frequency

We poll both APIs every 15 minutes for new or updated reviews.

  • Frequency: Every 15 minutes

  • Scope: All new and updated reviews from App Store Connect

Google Play Store gets new logo on Android [Updated] - 9to5Google Google Play

  • Frequency: Every 15 minutes

  • Scope: Only reviews created or updated within the last 7 days

📌 Note: Apple and Google apply moderation before reviews become public. Some reviews may take hours or days to appear. In some cases, reviews may never appear if rejected by the store.

Review Moderation and Visibility Delays

Both Apple and Google apply their own moderation rules before showing reviews and replies publicly.

  • Apple does not provide a fixed timeline for review moderation

  • In practice, moderation can take several hours to a few days

  • Replies may take up to 24 hours to a few days to appear on the App Store

  • Until then, replies show as pending in App Store Connect

"Responses may take up to 24 hours to appear on the App Store. Until then, they’ll show as pending in App Store Connect. Edited responses will have notations indicating that they’ve been edited. Responses appear in iOS 10.3 or later, macOS 10.6.6 or later, and visionOS 1 or later."- More on App Store review replies

Google Play Store gets new logo on Android [Updated] - 9to5Google Google Play

  • New reviews are typically held for around 24 hours before being visible

  • This delay allows Google to detect suspicious activity

  • During this time, reviews are available via the API and can be replied to, even if not yet public

"To allow us to protect your app on Google Play and automatically detect suspicious ratings and reviews activity, we do not publicly post user reviews immediately, and new ratings do not immediately impact your published rating. Instead, new submissions are generally held back for around 24 hours." - See Google’s review policy

How Timestamps Work

All reviews and replies pass through a moderation process in the App Store and Google Play. Review and reply timestamps in the platform reflect when the user submitted or last edited the review, not when the review passed moderation or was made public. As a result:

  • A review might appear to be older than it seems

  • Review order may not match visibility order on the public store

📌 Use filters in the dashboard to sort by ingestion date or apply custom tags to track review flow more effectively.
