How Trending TikTok Posts Work in the Outbound Inbox

Learn how TikTok trending content is pulled into the BrandBastion Outbound Inbox, what affects ranking, and how to optimize hashtag and engagement strategies for better content discovery.

Updated over a week ago

The Trending TikTok feed in your Outbound Inbox is populated via TikTok’s API. This means:

  • TikTok defines what’s trending, not BrandBastion.

  • Rankings are based on TikTok’s internal algorithm—not necessarily by likes, views, or shares.

  • There’s no direct visibility into TikTok's exact formula, but it likely weighs a mix of engagement velocity, watch time, and recency, not just raw numbers.

📌 Note: You can view TikTok’s documentation here for deeper API details.

Why do rankings sometimes look off?

You might see posts with lower likes or views ranked higher. This is expected behavior from TikTok's end.

For example:

A video with 60 likes may outrank one with 10K likes if TikTok's algorithm detects it's gaining momentum faster or has higher engagement quality.

Can we filter out low-performing content?

Currently, no. The platform does not support filtering or excluding posts based on likes, comments, or shares.

💡 Tip: If you're aiming for brand visibility, consider manually reviewing the top 10–20 posts for relevance and quality. Use tags or labels internally to flag content worth engaging with.

Why do results only show from one hashtag?

If you've entered 50+ hashtags and only see posts from 1–2 of them, it's likely because:

  • Only those hashtags have currently trending content

  • TikTok’s API only returns results for hashtags with active trending content

  • Non-trending hashtags simply won’t return results, even if inputted

✅ To check which hashtags are active:

  • Go to Analyze > Trending

  • Switch to Last 30 Days (instead of “Today”) for broader results

  • Prioritize hashtags with consistent activity when setting up your discovery queries

Recommended Workflow for Visibility-Focused Brands

  1. Input 15–30 high-potential hashtags, not 100+. Focus on quality and current activity.

  2. Use Analyze > Trending to validate which hashtags are performing.

  3. Review the top 20 surfaced posts manually—tag or label content worth engaging with.

  4. If content feels low-visibility, switch to Last 30 Days or revise hashtag inputs.

  5. Align with your team on internal thresholds (e.g., only engage posts with 500+ likes).
